The Tran-Hawthorne Prize is established by Professor Lesleyanne Hawthorne, in memory of her late husband, Associate Professor Graeme Hawthorne, and in acknowledgement of the exemplary clinical care provided to him by Dr Ben Tran.

Eligibility

Nominations are open to all final year MD students (Australian citizens, permanent residents and internationals) enrolled in Transition to Practice.

Selection criteria

The Tran-Hawthorne Prize will be awarded to a final-year MD student who demonstrates a passion for both patient-centred care and cutting-edge medical science.

This award will not be offered in 2026.

Doctor of Medicine students are nominated by their Vocational Selective supervisor and are then invited to submit a personal statement.
