This scholarship was established with a donation from Vera Mert-Ilijin and is offered to female Indigenous Australian students.

Benefits

The scholarship provides an allowance of approximately $2,800 (exact amount determined when award is offered) paid in two instalments usually in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a female student
  • be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and be accepted as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which they live, or formerly lived.
  • be enrolled in a course at the University of Melbourne
  • have met the conditions of any Indigenous Bursaries awarded to you previously (such as submission of scholarship reports)

The status of indigenous Australians must be confirmed by the Murrup Barak Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development.

Selection criteria

Eligible students are selected on the basis of financial need, academic merit and other scholarships awarded to the applicant..

Conditions

  • You must be enrolled in a course at the University of Melbourne.
  • This scholarship cannot be deferred.
  • You may be eligible to receive this scholarship while enrolled as a part-time student.
  • You must provide a Scholarship report by 31 July of each year that you receive the scholarship. The report may be made available to the donor of the Scholarship.
  • You must acknowledge the support of the Scholarship in any publication, advertisement, lecture, seminar, workshop, performance or exhibition issuing from the scholarship.

Submit an online Student Financial Assessment form by the closing date. With this application you will be considered for all Indigenous Bursaries.

When will I know the outcome?

All applicants are notified of the outcome within 6 weeks of the relevant closing date.
