Coursework Access Scholarships

The Coursework Access Scholarships are available to mature age undergraduate students and all graduate students who have experienced or are experiencing compassionate or compelling circumstances and have applied for or are enrolled in a coursework degree course at the University of Melbourne.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria


    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
    • have applied for or be enrolled in a coursework degree course at the University of Melbourne
    • have at least twelve months of full-time equivalent study remaining to complete your course
    • provide evidence that you experience compassionate or compelling circumstances, e.g. having primary care responsibilities for a dependent, medical condition, personal or financial difficulties

    Selection criteria

    Eligible candidates are selected on the basis on their overall level of disadvantage, academic merit and the specific purpose of each scholarship.


    • These scholarships are subject to the Coursework Scholarship Conditions.
    • You agree to give permission for the University to provide your name and course details to the donor of your scholarship and to provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
  • Application process

    Submit an online application.

    Applications usually open in November.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Students will be notified of the outcome of their application by 28 February. Reasons for non-selection and feedback on individual applications will not be provided.

  • Variations of this scholarship

    Irene and Arthur Kinsman Award for Postgraduate Studies

    Established with a bequest from Mavis Kinsman, this scholarship is awarded to female graduates from the University of Melbourne who intend to undertake graduate study in social sciences.

    Eleanor and Joseph Wertheim Scholarship

    Established with a bequest from Dr Eleanor Sabina Wertheim, this scholarship is awarded to single, mature-aged, female students.

    Hugh Kingsley Family Scholarship

    Established with a donation from Hugh Kingsley, this scholarship is awarded to mature aged students.

Ranging from one off payments of $5,000 to up to $20,000 per year (pro-rata) for up to 3 years.
