Summary

The Indigenous Accommodation Grant is offered to Indigenous students who are residing in Student Accommodation and are ineligible for government accommodation funding or other forms of financial support.

Benefits

The scholarship provides a contribution of $10,000 for a maximum duration of one year if you live at the Student Accommodation for a full year, or $5,000 for half a year if you live at the Student Accommodation for half a year, and will be paid directly to the accommodation provider.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this grant, you must:

  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent, identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted as such by the community in which you live or have lived
  • Be currently enrolled in a degree at The University of Melbourne
  • Be residing in one of the University of Melbourne’s affiliated Student Accommodation providers.

Selection criteria

The scholarships are offered to eligible applicants with the highest level of financial need, with a preference given to commencing students in the start year intake.

Please note, the availability of the Indigenous Accommodation Grant for students commencing in the mid-year intake is dependent on the number of Grants awarded in the start year intake.

Conditions

  • The grant cannot be deferred to the following year.
  • The scholarship will cease if:
    • You do not maintain an average result of at least 50 for each semester of enrolment
    • You do not commence or withdraw from your course or the University withdraws your enrolment
    • You no longer reside at the agreed University Accommodation or Residential College.
  • The scholarship will be suspended if:
    • You are granted leave of absence from your course
    • You enrol in a part-time study load
  • Students must affirm and maintain their eligibility for support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. See: Establishing your eligibility

If you have submitted an application for the Student Bursaries you will be automatically considered for this grant.

When will I know the outcome?

All applicants will be notified of the outcome in April for Round 1 (start year intake) applications and in September for Round 2 (mid-year intake).
