    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be enrolled in a medical course at the University of Melbourne
    • provide evidence of financial need

    Selection criteria

    Eligible students are selected on the basis of financial need.


    • You must be enrolled as a full-time student in a course at the University of Melbourne. You may be eligible to receive this scholarship while enrolled as a part-time student.
    • This scholarship cannot be deferred to the following year.
    • You must provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship and give permission for the University to provide the report, your name and course details to the donor.
  • Application process

    If you have submitted an application for the Student Grants you will be automatically considered for this scholarship.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email in April.

  • About the donor

    Rachel Esther Alston

    Rachel Esther Alston bequeathed the sum of £1,500 to the University of Melbourne in 1951 in accordance with the wish of her late father, Michael Crawcour. The Issac Samuel Crawcour Trust was established in the memory of the donor's brother Issac Samuel Crawcour, a medical student who was killed while protecting his home from burglars.

What are the benefits?

The scholarship provides an annual allowance of approximately $4,450 (exact amount determined when award is offered) for up to the full-time duration of your course. The annual allowance is paid in two instalments usually in April and September. The duration will be reduced by any study completed towards your course prior to receiving this scholarship.
