Science Access Scholarship

The Science Access Scholarship is awarded to domestic undergraduate students who are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances and intend to undertake the Bachelor of Science with a major in the areas of Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen
    • Have not previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a Year 12 program)
    • Have applied for the Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne via VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) for commencement in the year following completion of Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
    • Meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in your VTAC application

    Selection criteria

    This scholarship is offered to eligible candidates who have the highest overall level of disadvantage based on the information provided in their VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) application and their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

    Conditions

    During tenure, recipient’s major should be aligned to the School of Physics, School of Chemistry or School of Mathematics and Statistics, or their successors.

    Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically considered.

    There is no separate application process.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Scholarship offers are made a few days after the Victorian Year 12 ATAR are released in December. Further offers are made in January and February to students who have completed IB or Year Twelve at an school outside Victoria.

  • Variations of this award

What are the benefits?

  • A living allowance of $6,500 per year for four years paid in half-yearly instalments of $3,250. The living allowance will be extended by one year if students enrol in the Diploma of General Studies, a concurrent diploma, a bachelor extended degree or a bachelor degree with honours.
  • A one-off relocation allowance of $3,000 paid shortly after enrolling in their course for students who are living in a regional or remote area of Australia.

All Science Access Scholarship recipients have access to the Narrm Scholarship Enrichment Program, an exclusive program to support students to transition to and succeed at university.
