The scholarship is offered to Indigenous students and domestic students who are enrolling in an undergraduate course and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived
    • have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree via VTAC or VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS)
    • meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in their VTAC application

    or

    • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a holder of an Australian permanent visa
    • have completed Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
    • not have completed subjects undertaken as part of a tertiary course (excludes extension program subjects)
    • have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree via VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) Category 1 Personal Information and Location and other categories (if applicable) for commencement in the year following completion of Year 12 or International Baccalaureate
    • meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in your VTAC application

    Selection criteria

    This scholarship is offered to all eligible Indigenous students and students whose home address, provided to the University when you apply for Access Melbourne under SEAS Category 1, is in a low socioeconomic area (as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics).

    Around 200 scholarships are offered to other eligible students who have the highest overall level of disadvantage based on the information provided in their VTAC SEAS application.

    Conditions

    This scholarship is subject to the Coursework Scholarships Terms and Conditions and can be deferred to the following academic year. In addition, students must agree to give permission for the University to provide their name and course details to the donor of their scholarship and to provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.

    Indigenous students must affirm and maintain their eligibility for support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. See: Confirming your eligibility

  • Application process

    Students are automatically considered if they have applied for admission to the University via VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Scholarship offers are made shortly after the Victorian Year 12 ATAR are released in December. Further offers are made from December onwards to students who have completed IB or Year 12 at a school outside Victoria.

    Offered to students who intend to pursue a graduate degree by coursework in the field of Engineering and are living in a regional or remote area.

    Diwaliben Gordhanbhai Patel Access Scholarship

    Offered to students experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.

    Fletcher Scholarship in Engineering

    Offered to students who intend to pursue a graduate degree by coursework in the field of Engineering.

    Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships

    Offered to students of Australian Indigenous descent.

    James Rapley Memorial Scholarship

    Offered to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science, who intend to live at a Residential College of the University of Melbourne.

    Jennifer Taplin Scholarship

    Offered to students who identify as women and are living in a regional or remote area.

    John and Olga Lawless Ziegler Scholarship

    Offered to students who undertake studies in agricultural science

    Kathleen Mary Kehoe Scholarship

    Offered to students experiencing disadvantaged circumstances. Preference is given to students who are enrolling in the Bachelor of Biomedicine.

    Mildura Alumni Scholarship

    Awarded to students who are living and completed Year 12 at a school within a 250 km radius of Mildura.

    Paul and Angela Wheelton Scholarship

    Offered to students who intend to live at International House at the University of Melbourne.

    Ray and Violet Marshman Scholarship

    Offered to students who are living in a regional and remote area.

    Science Access Scholarship

    Offered to students who are enrolling in the Bachelor of Science with a major in the areas of Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.

    Sharon Hurst and Peter Levy Scholarship

    Offered to students who are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.

    Shelley Phillips Scholarship

    Offered to students who identify as women and are living in a regional or remote area.

    Sir Samuel Wadham Rural Students Scholarship

    Offered to students who are living in a regional and remote areas.

    Sisson Family Scholarship

    Offered to domestic students who reside and completed Year 12 at a Government school in the Mildura or Murray Plains Districts, and are enrolling in the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Biomedical Science.  To be considered for this scholarship, you must register your interest.

    Wodetzki Family Scholarship

    Offered to students who are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.

What are the benefits?

  • A living allowance of $6,500 per year for four years paid in half-yearly instalments of $3,250. The living allowance will be extended by one year if students enrol in the Diploma of General Studies, a concurrent diploma, a bachelor extended degree or a bachelor degree with honours.
  • A one-off relocation allowance of $3,000 paid shortly after enrolment for students from regional or remote areas of Australia.
