The Helen Keneley Scholarship

This scholarship is available to current and recent graduate TESOL students of the Faculty of Education who are interested in teaching or studying in Japan. The scholarship is for students who would like to expand their skills and knowledge by an international experience in Japan. The scholarship can assist with travel, initial set up costs, course fees, and other related expenses.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be currently enrolled in, or within the previous three years having graduated from:
      • the Master of Teaching (Secondary) with a Learning Area specialisation in TESOL; OR
      • the Master of TESOL (or one of its nested degrees, including the Graduate Certificate in TESOL) (or its successor); AND
    • have a desire to teach or study in Japan

    Selection criteria

    • Eligible applicants will be assessed on the merit of their application, including the strength of the proposal and prior academic performance.
    • Applicants must provide a clear plan that includes details of plans to teach and/or study in Japan, including a budget for the main costs.
    • If deemed necessary by the Selection Committee further information and/or an interview may be required for shortlisted applicants.
  • Application process
    • Completion of application via the online application form. The application form will be available when the scholarship opens.
    • Applicants must outline a proposal that will include teaching and/or studying in Japan.
    • Applications are ranked by the selection committee which consists of three University academics.
