The Alexander and Bridget Jones Memorial Arts Scholarship is offered to high-achieving students undertaking the Bachelor of Arts and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.
About the donor
The Alexander and Bridget Jones Memorial Scholarship is supported by a gift from Ian and Sue Jones to honour their children, Alexander and Bridget. Both Alexander and Bridget were students at the University of Melbourne, undertaking studies in Arts.
Benefits
This scholarship provides a living allowance of $10,000 per year for three years paid in half-yearly instalments of $5000 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- be a current first year student in the Bachelor of Arts
- Demonstrate financial disadvantage
Selection criteria
The prize is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their overall application.
Preference is given to students in the Faculty of Arts who demonstrate a willingness to apply leadership skills and strengths towards activities that benefit others and due consideration is given to financial disadvantage.
Conditions
Students must:
- Accept the award online within 21 days
- Provide an annual report outlining the outcomes and benefits of the scholarship, particularly in relation to leadership intentions and academic achievements."

How to apply
You must submit an online application and include:
- A 500-word statement outlining how the scholarship would positively impact your life and assist with your academic work, with relevance to your willingness to apply leadership skills and strengths to activities that benefit others
- Evidence of a complete and submitted University of Melbourne Student Financial Assessment form
- A current statement of results
- Any other information to support the application that may assist the committee in making its decision.
