About the donor
Anonymous donor in memory of Eve Landman
Eve Susan Weiss was born in Vienna in 1926. Along with her family, she was forced to flee the Nazi occupation of Austria in 1939, arriving in Australia as a 13-year-old refugee with little English. Despite these hardships, she studied hard, excelled at school and went on to study dentistry at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 1948. She received the John Iliffe prize, awarded annually to the top student, at the end of her fourth year. This was a remarkable achievement indeed.
Eve married a fellow refugee, Jascha (John) Landman, in 1952 and practised as a dentist in the early years of her marriage and until her third child was born. In her fifties, she went back to working part-time with an orthodontist.
Eve was intelligent, cultured, generous and loving – and she engendered great loyalty and friendship from everyone who knew her. She was enormously proud of her three children, all graduates of the University of Melbourne. She died in 2016, aged 90, and this scholarship is in her honour – to help students in financial need achieve their ambitions of pursuing careers in oral health and dentistry.
What are the benefits?
