Submitting your application
Automatic consideration
Most scholarships do not require an application. This means you will be automatically considered if you have applied for admission to an undergraduate, graduate or research degree.
Scholarship closing dates are usually the same as course application closing dates.
Make sure you submit a complete course application as early as possible, because incomplete course applications are not considered for a scholarship.
Examples of automatic consideration opportunities: Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship or Melbourne Graduate Access Bursary.
Once enrolled, students are also automatically considered for a range of prizes that are awarded based on results achieved in subjects, majors, specialisations or an entire course. Students' academic results are usually assessed at the end of each academic year.
Application required
If specific information is needed in order to select students for a scholarship, bursary or prize, you will need to complete and submit an application form.
Make sure you submit the application well before the published closing date to allow for unforeseen circumstances.
Late applications are usually not accepted, even if you miss the closing date due to technical issues.
The information needed for applications varies:
- For scholarships and prizes, you may have to provide a personal statement that addresses specific selection criteria, your resume, or statements from your supervisor in support of your application.
- For bursaries, you may have to provide details about your financial position or a statement about how your personal circumstances are impacting on your studies or ability to support yourself through employment.
- Grants for specific purposes, such as fieldwork, projects, conferences, will require details about the proposed activity and often a statement about how they will contribute or assist with your study or research.
