This suite of travelling scholarships is awarded to high-achieving students who are enrolled in graduate degree by coursework or research at an institution outside Australia.
Benefits
An allowance between $10,000 and $30,000 per year for the normal duration of the overseas study or research program.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
You must meet the requirement for one of the following scholarships:
- Rae and Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates of the University of Melbourne who are pursuing graduate study or research in England, Scotland Wales or Northern Ireland.
- W.E.J Craig Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates of the University of Melbourne who are pursuing graduate research in the area of animal husbandry at an overseas institution (preference for Queen's University Belfast).
- Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates of any Australian university who are pursuing graduate study or research at a university in Great Britain.
- Hirsh and Olga Taft Scholarship - offered to a graduate of the University who are pursuing study or research at a university in Israel (preference for the Hebrew University of Jerusalem).
- Ian Ramsay Maxwell Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates from the University of Melbourne who are pursuing graduate study or research at an overseas institution.
Selection criteria
The scholarships are offered to the student(s) ranked highested by the selection panel based on their application, financial position and academic results for previous study.

How to apply
You must submit an application for the prestigious travelling scholarships. Applications usually open on 1 March and close on 31 May.
As part of the application, you will be asked to provide:
- a short statement outlining how you intend to fund your overseas travel (500 words) and
- a statement outlining the reasons for undertaking the intended study or research, including how the experience will contribute to your field of study (500 words)
In addition, you will need to attach:
- Evidence that you have applied for admission or an arrangement to undertake research at the overseas institution
- Academic transcripts from tertiary qualifications obtained outside the University of Melbourne
- Curriculum Vitae with details of your educational and employment history
When will I know the outcome?
You will be notified of the outcome of your application by the end of July.
