Eligibility & selection criteria
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- intend to under take study or research at an education institution outside Australia
- meet the requirement for one of the following scholarships:
- Rae and Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship - offered to currently enrolled students at or graduates from the University of Melbourne who are Australian citizens or permanent residents and intend to undertake graduate study or research in England, Scotland Wales or Northern Ireland.
- W.E.J Craig Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates from the University of Melbourne who intend to undertake research in the area of animal husbandry at an overseas institution (preference for Queen's University Belfast).
- Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates from any Australian university who intend to undertake further graduate study or research at a university in Great Britain.
- Hirsh and Olga Taft Scholarship - offered to a graduate of the University to study or conduct research at a university in Israel (preference for the Hebrew University of Jerusalem).
- Ian Ramsay Maxwell Travelling Scholarship - offered to graduates from the University of Melbourne who intend to undertake graduate study or research at an overseas institution.
Selection criteria
The scholarships are awarded to eligible candidates on the basis of academic merit, quality of the application and financial position.

Application process
You must submit a Travelling Scholarships Application. Applications usually open on 1 March and close on 31 May of each year.
As part of the application, you will be asked to provide:
- a short statement outlining how you intend to fund your overseas travel (500 words) and
- a statement outlining the reasons for undertaking the intended study or research, including how the experience will contribute to your field of study (500 words)
In addition, you will need to attach:
- Academic transcripts from tertiary qualifications obtained outside the University of Melbourne
- Evidence that you have applied for admission or an arrangement to undertake research at the overseas institution
- Curriculum Vitae with details of your educational and employment history

When will I know the outcome?
Students who have submitted an application, should receive an outcome before 15 July.
What are the benefits?
An allowance between $10,000 and $30,000 per year for the normal duration of the overseas study or research program.
